The Science of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Your blood is composed of red cells, white cells, plasma, and platelets. Platelets are the body's 'first responders'—whenever you get a cut or injury, platelets rush to the site to stop the bleeding and release powerful 'Growth Factors' (like PDGF, VEGF, and EGF) that signal your stem cells to repair and rebuild the tissue.
PRP Therapy isolates and concentrates these platelets up to 5x their normal volume. By directly injecting this 'liquid gold' into areas of concern (like a thinning scalp or wrinkling face), we artificially trigger a massive healing cascade, forcing the body to regenerate hair follicles and produce new collagen.
Not All PRP is Created Equal
The effectiveness of PRP depends entirely on the centrifuge technology used to separate the blood. Cheap salon centrifuges cannot properly separate red blood cells from platelets, resulting in a weak, painful injection. At Healthfusion, we use FDA-approved double-spin centrifuge technology to extract pure, highly concentrated 'buffy coat' platelets for maximum clinical efficacy.
Two Primary Applications
Scalp PRP (Hair Loss)
The most scientifically proven non-surgical treatment for hair thinning. PRP growth factors drastically increase blood supply to the follicle, prolonging the anagen (growth) phase.
- Stops excessive hair fall rapidly
- Thickens existing miniaturized hairs
- Highly effective for early male/female pattern baldness
- Excellent post-hair transplant maintenance
Face PRP (Vampire Facial)
The ultimate anti-aging treatment. By combining medical microneedling with PRP, we drive growth factors deep into the dermis to trigger massive collagen and elastin synthesis.
- Erases fine lines and superficial wrinkles
- Plumps hollow, sagging skin
- Reduces acne scars and large pores
- Leaves the skin with a profound, youthful glow
The 3-Step PRP Process
The entire outpatient procedure takes about 60 minutes and is performed under strict sterile medical conditions.
Blood Draw
Just like a routine blood test, a small amount of your blood (usually 10 to 20 ml) is drawn from your arm into a specialized, sterile collection tube.
Centrifugation
The tube is placed in a high-speed medical centrifuge. Spinning at precise speeds separates the red blood cells from the platelet-rich plasma, creating a distinct golden layer ("liquid gold").
Injection / Infusion
For the scalp, the PRP is carefully injected directly into the thinning areas using ultra-fine needles. For the face, it is infused deep into the skin via a microneedling device.

Common queries about Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy.
Q1. What exactly is PRP?
PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. It is a regenerative treatment where we draw a small amount of your own blood, spin it in a high-speed centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the plasma, and extract the concentrated platelets. These platelets are packed with powerful 'Growth Factors' that signal your body's cells to heal, regenerate tissue, and stimulate hair follicles.
Q2. How does PRP work for Hair Loss?
When injected into the scalp, the concentrated growth factors in PRP 'wake up' dormant hair follicles. They increase the blood supply to the follicle, prolong the 'Anagen' (active growth) phase of the hair cycle, and increase the thickness of the hair shaft. It is highly effective for thinning hair, early male pattern baldness, and female pattern hair loss.
Q3. Is PRP safe?
Yes, it is 100% safe. Because PRP is derived entirely from your own blood (autologous), there is absolutely zero risk of an allergic reaction, rejection, or disease transmission. It is the most natural medical treatment available.
Q4. Does the procedure hurt?
For scalp PRP, we use a specialized vibrational numbing device and ultra-fine insulin syringes or an automated mesogun to make the injections virtually painless. For facial PRP (the Vampire Facial), we apply a strong topical anesthetic cream for 45 minutes before the procedure, ensuring you feel almost nothing.
Q5. How many sessions are required for Hair Loss?
Hair growth takes time. A standard clinical protocol requires an initial series of 3 to 4 sessions, spaced exactly 4 weeks apart. You will notice a significant reduction in hair fall after the 2nd session, and visible new hair growth and thickening by the 3rd or 4th session. Maintenance sessions every 4 to 6 months are recommended.
Q6. What is a 'Vampire Facial' (Face PRP)?
A 'Vampire Facial' combines Microneedling with PRP. We use a micro-needling pen to create thousands of microscopic channels in the facial skin, and then massage the PRP serum directly into these channels. The growth factors trigger massive collagen and elastin production, erasing fine lines, shrinking pores, and leaving the skin glowing and youthful.
Q7. Can PRP regrow hair on a completely bald spot?
No. PRP requires an existing hair follicle to stimulate. If the follicle is completely dead and the skin is slick and bald (advanced Grade 6 or 7 baldness), PRP cannot create a new follicle. In such cases, a Hair Transplant is the only option. PRP is best for 'thinning' hair where the follicles are miniaturized but still alive.
Q8. What is the difference between PRP and GFC?
While both use your blood, they are processed differently. In standard PRP, the platelets are injected into the scalp where they break down and release growth factors over time. In GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate), we use a special chemical activator during the centrifuge process to extract ONLY the pure growth factors, leaving all cells (including platelets) behind. GFC is often completely painless and highly concentrated.
Q9. Is there any downtime after Face PRP?
After a facial PRP session, your skin will be red (similar to a sunburn) and feel tight for 24 to 48 hours. You must avoid direct sunlight and heavy makeup for 2 days. After day 3, the skin begins to heal rapidly, revealing a massive improvement in texture and glow.
Q10. What should I avoid before a PRP session?
To ensure your platelets are healthy and active, you must stop taking NSAIDs (like Ibuprofen or Aspirin) and blood thinners at least 3 days before the procedure, as these inhibit platelet function. You should also stay highly hydrated and avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your blood draw.
