Medically speaking, a scar cannot be erased completely so that the skin looks as if it was never injured. The goal of scar revision is to significantly reduce its visibility, texture, and coloration so that it blends seamlessly with the surrounding skin, becoming virtually unnoticeable. Depending on the scar type, we can achieve up to 70-90% improvement.

Deep 'pits' are usually Ice Pick or Boxcar scars. There is no single 'best' treatment; we use a combination approach. TCA Cross is excellent for deep Ice Pick scars, while MNRC (Microneedling Radiofrequency) and Subcision are highly effective for Boxcar and Rolling scars. Dr. Shruti creates a customized protocol combining these methods to lift and smooth the depressed tissue.

Before the procedure, we apply a strong, medical-grade topical anesthetic cream for 45 minutes to thoroughly numb the area. Most patients report only mild discomfort or a feeling of heat and pressure during the MNRC treatment. The procedure is very well tolerated.

Collagen remodeling takes time. For moderate to severe acne scars, most patients require 4 to 6 sessions of advanced treatments (like MNRC or Fractional Laser), spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. You will begin to see visible textural improvements after the second or third session.

Subcision is a minor surgical procedure used specifically for 'rolling' acne scars. These scars are tethered down by fibrous bands beneath the skin. Under local anesthesia, Dr. Shruti inserts a specialized needle (Nokor needle) horizontally beneath the scar to cut these fibrous bands. Once released, the depressed skin pops up immediately, smoothing the surface.

Yes, keloids (thick, raised, overgrown scars) can be flattened and softened. The primary treatment involves Intralesional Corticosteroid Injections directly into the scar tissue to break down the excess collagen. For stubborn keloids, we may combine injections with Cryotherapy or specialized laser treatments.

Downtime depends on the intensity of the treatment. Light chemical peels have zero downtime. MNRC typically involves 24 to 48 hours of redness and mild swelling (similar to a sunburn). TCA Cross will leave tiny scabs on the scars that fall off in 5 to 7 days. We will provide specific aftercare to minimize your recovery time.

No. Over-the-counter scar creams and gels (like silicone gels) are excellent for preventing new scars from worsening during the initial healing phase (first 3-6 months). However, for old, depressed acne scars or mature surgical scars, topicals are entirely ineffective. Structural changes to the skin require physical interventions like lasers, microneedling, or subcision.

Early intervention is key. For surgical or trauma scars, we recommend starting preventative treatments (like silicone sheets or gentle lasers) as soon as the stitches are removed and the wound is fully closed (usually 2 to 3 weeks post-injury). Treating a scar while it is still actively healing yields far better results than waiting years.

Yes. Treatments like MNRC, Subcision, and Lasers work by stimulating your body to produce new collagen and physically restructuring the scar tissue. Once this new collagen is formed and the skin is smoothed out, the results are permanent. The scar will not 'return' to its original depressed state.
